Our Objectives

The Irish Art Compendium was designed with several objectives in mind:

1. To make Irish art, Irish artists and Irish art galleries more accessible to a greater number of people, both in Ireland and around the world.
2. To provide a free, professional internet presence for all Irish artists and Irish art galleries.
3. To provide an integrated platform to allow Irish artists and Irish art galleries to work together to promote Irish art.
4. To provide a marketing vehicle for Irish artists, groups of artists and art galleries to promote their works of art to a wide audience both in Ireland and around the world.
5. To promote Irish artists and Irish art galleries at a local level.
6. To provide information in the website that is regularly updated, relevant and current.
7. To create a Living History of Irish Art.

 Greater Access

One of the primary objectives of the Irish Art Compendium is to make Irish art, Irish artists and Irish art galleries accessible to a greater number of people, both in Ireland and around the world.  This is achieved by:

1  Designing a user friendly website that can be enjoyed by individuals

with various levels of computer experience.

2  Allowing visitors to browse and search the website without the

    requirement to register.

3  Providing every Irish artist and Irish art gallery with the means of

establishing a professional internet presence, FREE of charge.

4  Marketing and promoting the Irish Art Compendium and Irish art in

order to bring wider and more integrated exposure to Irish art, Irish

    artists and Irish art galleries.

 Internet Presence

Irish artists and Irish art galleries belong to one of two groups:

1   Those with their own website.

2   Those without their own website.

With own website

The Details page for an Irish Art Compendium registered artist or art gallery provides for a link to the members own website.  Why not use the Irish Art Compendium as a secondary website and marketing vehicle for your own dedicated site?

Without own website

Irish artists and Irish art galleries considering having their own website face some common costs including development, maintenance and marketing.  Why not use the Irish Art Compendium as your primary website while you consider the financial and other implications of developing and running your own site?

 Integrated Platform
The Irish Art Compendium provides an integrated platform where Irish artists and Irish art galleries can work together.  It is our belief that the promotion of both Irish artists and art galleries in an integrated fashion will broaden the appeal of Irish art.  Artists and art galleries may link to each other in order to promote their individual and collective portfolios in a mutually beneficial way.  Groups of artists may promote joint exhibitions while simultaneously promoting their individual portfolios.

 Marketing Vehicle
Whether you're an individual artist, a group of artists or an art gallery, we want the Irish Art Compendium to be your marketing and promotional vehicle.  Even if you're already using other promotional means, the Irish Art Compendium can complement these efforts.  We want Irish Art to be enjoyed and appreciated by a wide audience in Ireland and around the world.  We believe in network effects - that word of mouth and recommendations can have a powerful cumulative effect and enlarge both the Irish Art community and its audience.  One straightforward but powerful tool we provide is our Tell A Friend facility.  In any of the areas of our site - be it Art, Artists, Exhibitions, Art Galleries, Suppliers or Patrons - you can recommend something to a friend.  Recommend an abstract artwork, an upcoming exhibition in their home town, or a supplier whose section on sculpture books is the best around.

 Local Art

One of the primary objectives of the Irish Art Compendium is to promote Irish artists and Irish art galleries at a local level. This is achieved by:

1.  Including an interactive map of Ireland for easy searching.

2.  Providing a separate section for each county.

3.  Allowing for quick searches using the 'My County' button.

4.  Sending members regular email updates about what's happening in

     their county.

5.  Marketing and promoting the Irish Art Compendium on a county by

     county basis.

 Regularly Updated
The Irish Art world is dynamic, energetic and constantly growing.  To reflect this one of our primary objectives is to ensure that the information displayed on this website is constantly updated, relevant and current.  The Irish Art Compendium is designed so that our registered members can directly enter all their pertinent information.   Our members have a central role in making the Irish Art Compendium a living history of Irish Art.

 Living History
The Irish Art Compendium was designed not only to be a portal to the Irish art world but also to be a living history of Irish art.  And who better to tell that story than the artists and art galleries of Ireland.  Artists and art galleries are encouraged to complete a comprehensive profile about themselves and display as many works of art as they wish.  There is no requirement to remove artworks that are sold or exhibitions that are past.  In fact we encourage the opposite.  By registering and regularly adding new artworks and exhibitions, without deleting 'old ones', every Irish artist and Irish art gallery can contribute to documenting a living history of Irish art.  As Irish art grows and evolves the Irish Art Compendium will provide an ever expanding window into the dynamic world of Irish art.
